课程介绍 本课程是由六个季度组成,将探索现代物理学的基本理论基础,涉及的话题包括经典力学、量子力学、广义相对论、狭义相对论、宇宙学、电磁学和黑洞等。这些课程互相联系,但又是相对独立的课程,通过学习该课程,可以让学生对于现代物理有一个最基本的认识。量子理论是宇宙最基本的层面的理解。马克斯普朗克,爱因斯坦,玻尔,海森堡,和欧文薛定谔的理论激荡着20世纪前半期的物理学,一个全新的逻辑和数学基础的量子力学最终取代了经典物理学。在课程学习中,我们将探索宇宙世界,学习光的粒子理论,海森堡测不准原理和薛定谔方程等。
This course is comprised of a six-quarter sequence of classes that will explore the essential theoretical foundations of modern physics. The topics covered in this course sequence will include classical mechanics, quantum mechanics, the general and special theories of relativity, electromagnetism, cosmology, and black holes. While these courses will build upon one another, each course also stands on its own, and both individually and collectively they will let students attain the “theoretical minimum” for thinking intelligently about modern physics. Quantum theory governs the universe at its most basic level. In the first half of the 20th century physics was turned on its head by the radical discoveries of Max Planck, Albert Einstein, Niels Bohr, Werner Heisenberg, and Erwin Schroedinger. An entire new logical and mathematical foundation—quantum mechanics—eventually replaced classical physics. We will explore the quantum world, including the particle theory of light, the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle, and the Schroedinger Equation.
讲师介绍 李奥纳特·苏士侃是美国理论物理学家,美国斯坦福大学教授,弦论的创始人之一,他和其所领导的研究小组并提出宇宙的发展需要一外在的力量(agent)来参与而非自身发展的看法。他的研究兴趣包括弦论、量子场论、量子统计力学和量子宇宙学。他是美国国家科学院、美国艺术与科学学院会员,加拿大边界研究所物理理论研究所会员,韩国高等研究院特聘教授。
Leonard Susskind (born 1940) is the Felix Bloch Professor of Theoretical Physics at Stanford University. His research interests include string theory, quantum field theory, quantum statistical mechanics and quantum cosmology.He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences,and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences,an associate member of the faculty of Canada's Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics,and a distinguished professor of the Korea Institute for Advanced Study. Susskind is widely regarded as one of the fathers of string theory,who with Yoichiro Nambu and Holger Bech Nielsen, independently introduced the idea that particles could in fact be states of excitation of a relativistic string. He was the first to introduce the idea of the string theory landscape in 2003.In 1997, Susskind was awarded the J.J. Sakurai Prize for his "pioneering contributions to hadronic string models, lattice gauge theories, quantum chromodynamics, and dynamical symmetry breaking". Susskind's hallmark, according to colleagues, has been the application of "brilliant imagination and originality to the theoretical study of the nature of the elementary particles and forces that make up the physical world."
